MIFT Minister Meets Finland’s Ambassador in Cairo to Discuss Enhancing Bilateral Economic and Investment Cooperation

This meeting is part of the Egyptian government’s commitment to strengthening economic partnerships with European countries and attracting more FDI to the Egyptian market

Dr. Mohamed Farid stated that:

Ambassador of Finland in Cairo stated that:

  • Finnish companies are showing increasing interest in the Egyptian market due to the significant investment opportunities it offers.
  • The visit of the Finnish business delegation to Cairo represents an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the business communities of both countries and to promote the available investment opportunities in the Egyptian market.

Dr. Mohamed Farid, The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade (MIFT Minister) met with H.E. Ms. Riikka Eela, Ambassador of Finland in Cairo, and her accompanying delegation to explore ways to strengthen economic and investment relations and expand cooperation between the Egyptian and Finnish business communities. The meeting was attended by Eng. Mohamed El-Gawsaky, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI CEO), Dr. Abdel Aziz El-Sherif, Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS), and Mr. Mohamed Ayad, Advisor to the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade.

The meeting reflects the Egyptian government’s commitment to strengthening economic partnerships with European countries and attracting more FDI to the Egyptian market, alongside expanding cooperation with Finland in priority sectors, particularly technology and industry, to support national efforts to increase production, boost exports, and enhance integration into global supply chains.

Dr. Mohamed Farid highlighted Egypt’s promising investment opportunities across multiple sectors, supported by its strategic geographic location and extensive network of free trade agreements that connect it to regional and global markets. In addition, he noted the significant progress made in recent years in infrastructure, industrial zones, and logistics, which enhances Egypt’s ability to attract foreign investments and broaden its production base.

The Minister explained that the government is working to improve the business environment and streamline investment-related procedures, including the development of government services for investors and the digital transformation of service delivery, emphasizing the importance of leveraging Finnish expertise in digitalization, public service development, and artificial intelligence applications, particularly given Egypt’s focus on advancing digital transformation and enhancing the efficiency of services provided to investors.

In addition, Dr. Farid underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Egyptian and Finnish companies in advanced technology, data centers, and digital solutions, as well as in industrial equipment and supporting industries for the energy, oil, and gas sectors. He noted the possibility of coordinating with relevant entities to provide local partners for Finnish companies interested in investing or establishing industrial partnerships in Egypt.

He further stated that Egypt possesses a growing industrial base and significant opportunities to expand export-oriented manufacturing, especially as many European companies restructure supply chains and seek production locations closer to European markets, emphasizing that Egypt is one of the most important industrial destinations in the Southern Mediterranean, offering valuable opportunities for companies looking to expand in the region.

On her part, Ambassador Riikka Eela expressed Finland’s interest in strengthening economic cooperation with Egypt in the coming period, noting that Finnish companies are showing increasing interest in the Egyptian market due to its strong investment potential, given that Finland is home to leading global companies in industrial equipment, Information and Communications Technology, digital transformation, in addition to companies specializing in healthcare and medical technology.

She added that several Finnish companies are currently exploring opportunities to expand their operations in Egypt, particularly in the fields of technology, digitalization, specialized industries, energy-related sectors, and advanced healthcare solutions.

Furthermore, the Ambassador noted that the upcoming visit of the Finnish business delegation to Cairo represents an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the two business communities and promote investment opportunities in the Egyptian market, thereby supporting bilateral economic and trade relations.

The meeting discussed preparations for organizing an Egyptian–Finnish Business Forum in the near future, with the participation of Finnish companies and business leaders. The forum will include panel discussions and presentations on investment opportunities in Egypt, as well as bilateral meetings between companies from both sides.

Both sides additionally explored organizing field visits for the Finnish delegation to a number of industrial and investment zones in Egypt, enabling companies to directly explore available opportunities and visit existing factories in the Egyptian market, thereby fostering new industrial partnerships between the two countries.
