MIFT Minister Appoints Ali Azab as Assistant Minister for Legislative and Legal Affairs

  • The appointment aims to strengthen the legal team and the legislative system supporting the investment environment and improving the business climate.
  • Counselor Azab brings nearly 15 years of legal and judicial experience at the State Council, specializing in economic, investment, and public contracting matters.

Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade (MIFT Minister), has issued Decree No. 197 of 2026, appointing Counselor Ali Azab as Assistant Minister for Legislative and Legal Affairs. The appointment comes as part of MIFT’s plan to develop its institutional and legislative infrastructure, and to support efforts to modernize the legal system — thereby contributing to enhanced government performance and an improved investment and foreign trade environment in Egypt.

The Decree reflects MIFT’s orientation toward leveraging specialized legal expertise and competencies, in support of the State's efforts to develop the legislative and regulatory frameworks governing investment, provide a more stable and attractive environment for the business community, and strengthen legal and legislative coordination across files related to economic development.

Counselor Azab brings nearly fifteen years of legal and judicial experience, shaped through his work at the State Council across its various circuits and divisions — an experience that has equipped him with deep-rooted expertise in the principles and legislation governing economic and investment matters, as well as a thorough command of the legal frameworks regulating the operations of government bodies and public institutions.

He also possesses specialized expertise in the legislation and regulations pertaining to local administration and development, along with hands-on experience in public contracting files and their associated regulatory and legislative frameworks. His contributions further extend to legal matters related to non-banking financial activities — all of which strengthen his capacity to support MIFT’s efforts in developing the legislative system governing investment and foreign trade.

Counselor Azab is expected, through the responsibilities of his new position, to contribute to MIFT’s efforts in reviewing and developing legislation related to the investment environment, and enhancing the efficiency of legal and regulatory procedures — in line with the State's drive to improve the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy and attract greater levels of both domestic and foreign investment.
