MIFT Minister Holds Joint Consultations with U.S. Delegation on Bilateral Trade Relations

Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade (MIFT), received a U.S. delegation that included Robert Silverman, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo; Bryant Trick, Assistant US Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle East; Sonia Franceski, Senior Director for the Middle East Affairs Office of the United States Trade Representative ( USTR); Leo Roitman, Director of Agriculture at the Office; and Chris Riker, Minister Counsellor for Agricultural Affairs. The meeting was held within the framework of a round of consultations on trade issues between the two countries, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and advancing bilateral trade relations.

The meeting featured extensive discussions on developments in trade relations between Egypt and the United States, in addition to a number of technical issues related to trade exchange, including trade policies and opportunities and mechanisms to enhance the access of Egyptian exports to markets, in a manner that ensures market diversification and increases the competitiveness of Egyptian products. These discussions took place within the legal frameworks of the World Trade Organization, reflecting both sides’ commitment to supporting a stable and sustainable economic partnership.

The Minister affirmed that Egypt looks forward to strengthening cooperation in future-oriented sectors, particularly energy, technology, and advanced industries, highlighting the importance of attracting investments in the local manufacturing of rare metals to maximize value added and support industrial development.

He further noted that economic relations between Egypt and the United States extend back many years and continue to witness steady development, emphasizing the importance of building on this momentum to increase trade and investment exchange in a manner that serves the interests of both countries.

The Minister explained that Egypt continues its efforts to provide an attractive investment climate based on transparency and equal opportunities, while supporting the industrial sector and enhancing its competitiveness in global markets.

He further affirmed that there are promising opportunities for cooperation with the U.S. side across multiple sectors, including clean energy, advanced industries, and agriculture, in a manner that generates added value for both economies.

Dr. Farid added that Egypt remains open to continuing dialogue to address any existing trade challenges and to reach balanced solutions that support the smooth flow of trade between the two sides.

For his part, Bryant Trick, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, emphasized the importance of maintaining constructive dialogue between both sides, noting that these consultations enhance mutual understanding and support the stability of economic relations.

He also stated that the United States appreciates Egypt’s efforts to improve the business environment and implement economic reforms, affirming his country’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
