The Climate Finance Accelerator (CFA) Programme is an international initiative funded by the Government of the United Kingdom and implemented in Egypt in collaboration with Flat6Labs. The programme aims to support the transition toward a green economy and enhance the financing of investable climate-related projects. Climate Finance Accelerator (CFA) Programme: Transforming Environmental Projects into Attractive Investment Opportunities
The event provided a comprehensive overview of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United Kingdom (UK) in advancing green economy investment, highlighting the outcomes of the Climate Finance Accelerator (CFA) Programme as an international initiative funded by the UK Government to support developing countries.
The conference discussed mechanisms for delivering technical and financial support to climate-related projects and startups, as well as developing financial models and building capacity in line with international environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. This aims to enhance the competitiveness of Egypt’s business environment and attract sustainable financing.
In his remarks, Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh stated that climate finance is no longer merely an environmental commitment, but a key economic and competitiveness issue amid the global shift toward a green economy. He emphasized its role in qualifying Egyptian exports for access to global markets in light of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) requirements. He noted that the partnership with the UK reflects long-standing and deep relations, with the United Kingdom being the second-largest foreign investor in the Egyptian market, and bilateral trade reaching approximately £2.8 billion in 2025.
MIFT Minister added that the government is integrating green investments and climate finance into its annual plan to maximize opportunities arising from the transition to a low-carbon economy, alongside targets to increase the share of renewable energy in the electricity mix by 2030. He stressed the importance of developing regulatory and supervisory frameworks capable of accommodating diverse financial instruments and institutional capacities, while applying precise oversight methodologies to strengthen Egypt’s position in global carbon markets and translate climate commitments into tangible economic outcomes benefiting both businesses and citizens.
