  • Integration with local companies enhances added value and export capabilities.

MR. Lawrence Messick:

  • The Egyptian market represents a strategic gateway for expansion into Africa and the Middle East

As part of the State’s vision to enhance the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy, localize advanced industries, and attract high-quality investments, Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade (MIFT Minister), met with Mr. Lawrence Messick, founder of the U.S. company «Pure Peptides Pharmaceutical», to discuss opportunities for launching new investments in the Egyptian market in the fields of pharmaceutical manufacturing and gold trading and mining.

During the meeting, Messick’s plans to implement two major projects in Egypt were reviewed. The first project involves establishing a facility for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (peptides), with investments ranging between USD 8 million and USD 10 million during the first phase. The project is expected to expand into the production of advanced pharmaceutical materials, supporting the localization of the pharmaceutical industry and enhancing export capacities.

The second project focuses on the mining and gold trading sector through a plan to supply gold directly to the Egyptian market from several African countries, including Liberia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda, at prices aligned with global market rates.

Dr. Farid emphasized that the State is working to strengthen domestic manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients, highlighting the sector’s importance in supporting healthcare security and reducing reliance on imports.

He added that Egypt possesses advanced infrastructure in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, alongside national companies capable of entering productive partnerships that would support industrial integration.

The two sides also discussed the possibility of benefiting from Egypt’s Golden License framework and the investment incentives available for strategic projects, which would help facilitate implementation procedures.

Regarding the mining and gold trading sector, MIFT Minister stressed the importance of diversifying supply sources and enhancing the efficiency of the local market, noting that direct supply from entities holding mining and exploration licenses contributes to market stability.

For his part, Mr. Messick affirmed that the company aims to set up a project in Egypt for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients in accordance with international standards, with plans for gradual expansion during subsequent phases.

He further noted that he possesses expertise in the production of more than 40 types of advanced active pharmaceutical ingredients, in addition to a network of licenses in mining and gold trading across several African countries, emphasizing his strong interest in the Egyptian market as a suitable hub for regional expansion.
