The Export Development Fund (EDF) was established pursuant to the Presidential Decree No. 317 of 2002, following the issuance of Law No. 155 of 2002 on Export Development. EDF has a public legal personality and operates under the supervision of the Minister responsible for foreign trade.

EDF represents one of the mechanisms adopted by the Government to achieve the objectives of export development strategy. Such objectives include increasing export volumes, expanding export sectors, enhancing the competitiveness of both goods and services exports, and reducing export-related burdens in goods and services production sectors. Moreover, EDF contributes to improving the competitiveness of Egyptian exports by participating in the development of policies that support goods and services exports, promoting quality, accreditation, and compliance with international standards. This is achieved through several key pillars, including export support for marketing and promotional activities such as exhibitions, trade missions, and buyers missions, supporting companies in obtaining specialized quality and environmental sustainability certifications, providing transport support to African countries, and supporting training and capacity building in various export fields in cooperation with the Foreign Trade Training Center (FTTC) affiliated to the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.

In carrying out its mission, EDF cooperates with organizations representing the private sector, including the Federation of Egyptian Industries, the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, export councils, businessmen associations, and investors’ unions.
